Epson SureColor G6070 vs G9070: Which DTF Printer Fits Your Shop?

Epson G6070 vs G9070: Which DTF Printer Fits Your Shop?

Choosing between the Epson SureColor G6070 and G9070 comes down to one question: how much volume are you printing, and how fast is it growing? The G6070 is built for growing apparel shops running moderate daily production. The G9070 is built for high-volume decorators and contract printers running multiple shifts. Both print with the same Epson UltraChrome DF ink set, but they are aimed at very different shops. Here is how to tell which one is yours, and everything else you will need to start printing DTF besides the printer.

The Epson SureColor G6070: The Growing Shop's DTF Printer

The Epson SureColor G6070 is a 35.4-inch roll-to-roll DTF printer designed for entry to mid-volume production. It runs a single roll, prints up to 85 square feet per hour in Speed Mode (color plus white), and fits a compact, front-loading design that can sit against a wall. Automated maintenance takes just a few minutes per week, and the PrecisionCore Micro TFP printhead with Nozzle Verification Technology keeps clogs and downtime to a minimum.

The G6070 suits shops producing custom apparel transfers, sportswear, team uniforms, and promotional products at moderate daily volume. It is the lower upfront investment of the two, it runs on household power, and it comes with Fiery Digital Factory (Epson Edition) and Epson Edge Print Pro software, a maintenance kit, and dealer-assisted virtual installation and training. Ink packs are sold separately and required for setup.

The Epson SureColor G9070: The High-Volume Production Machine

The Epson SureColor G9070 is a 64-inch production DTF printer built for shops that never stop. Twin-roll capability lets it print two rolls simultaneously across a combined 64-inch width, and it reaches up to 350 square feet per hour in DTF Normal Mode (color plus white), or up to 650 square feet per hour in single-layer mode. The printhead is user-replaceable, so a head swap does not mean waiting on a service technician, and Fiery Digital Factory adds auto-nesting and gang sheets for high-volume fulfillment.

The G9070 is built for high-volume apparel decorators, contract DTF print providers, shops running multiple shifts or 24/7 production, and businesses scaling beyond entry-level systems. Epson Cloud Solution PORT adds remote job tracking and cost accounting, which matters when you are running production around the clock. Like the G6070, it includes Fiery Digital Factory and Epson Edge Print Pro, and ink packs are sold separately.

Which Printer Fits Your Customer Profile?

You are a growing apparel shop: choose the G6070

You print custom apparel, team uniforms, sportswear, or promo products every day, but not around the clock. You need professional quality, a machine that mostly takes care of itself, and room to grow without a production-floor investment. The G6070's compact footprint, automated maintenance, and lower upfront cost fit this profile, and its 35.4-inch width handles oversized graphics and multiple smaller designs across a single roll.

You are a high-volume decorator or contract printer: choose the G9070

You sell transfers wholesale, run gang sheets for fulfillment, or operate multiple shifts. Your bottleneck is throughput, not quality. The G9070's twin-roll printing, 350 sq ft/hr output, user-replaceable printhead, and remote cost tracking are built for exactly this shop. If you are turning down rush jobs or losing sales to lead times, that is the sign you have outgrown a mid-volume machine.

You are scaling from a desktop or entry-level DTF setup: start with the G6070

If your current setup cannot keep up but you are not ready for a 64-inch production line, the G6070 is the step up: roll-to-roll production, sealed ink packs, automated maintenance, and on-site service support, without the floor space, weight, or price of the G9070. You can always add capacity later as volume proves it.

What Else You Need to Start DTF Printing (Besides the Printer)

The printer is only part of a working DTF setup. Budget for these before your first production run:

  • UltraChrome DF ink packs. Both printers use Epson's UltraChrome DF ink set, and ink packs are sold separately and required for setup. Only genuine Epson ink packs are compatible.
  • DTF transfer film rolls. Your designs print onto PET transfer film, which comes in rolls matched to your printer's width.
  • Adhesive powder. Powder is applied to the wet ink on the film and then cured, which is what bonds the design to the garment in the heat press.
  • A powder shaker and dryer. A shaker applies the powder evenly and cures the transfer so it is ready to press. IT Supplies offers the G6070 bundled with the Miro 36 Pro shaker and dryer, so printer and shaker arrive as one workflow.
  • A heat press. The essential finishing tool: it presses the cured transfer onto the garment. Size it for the garments you plan to press.
  • Garments. DTF works on cotton, polyester, and blends, which covers most custom apparel, sportswear, and uniforms.
  • Floor space, power, and delivery planning. The G6070 is a compact 295 lb machine that fits against a wall. The G9070 is 815 lb and 116 inches wide, so plan for production floor space and delivery, including a liftgate or receiving dock if you do not have one.
  • Ongoing maintenance supplies. A maintenance kit comes in the box, but cleaning supplies and replacement parts are part of the running cost of any DTF printer.

What you do not need to buy separately: RIP and workflow software. Both printers include Fiery Digital Factory (Epson Edition) and Epson Edge Print Pro, plus dealer-assisted virtual installation and training on the G6070.

The Bottom Line

Buy the G6070 if you are a growing shop that needs reliable, moderate-volume DTF production without a production-floor commitment. Buy the G9070 if you are a high-volume decorator or contract printer whose bottleneck is throughput. Either way, budget for ink, film, powder, a shaker and dryer, and a heat press alongside the printer, because that is the full system that actually produces shirts.
